Are you feeling discouraged? Do you feel like giving up? Don’t lose hope just yet. I’m going to talk about perseverance on this post.
I would like to preface by saying that this blog post was originally a post on my old blog Chew on This. I’ve changed it a bit to share at the place where I’m at now. But my hope and prayer is that you will be encouraged and know that there’s hope.
During my 2 years in Monterey, there would be times when I would feel like I want to drop out of college because I want to give up. But the Lord laid on my heart, through scripture and through a movie that I shouldn’t do that.
In the book of Nehemiah, the enemies of God tear down the walls of Jerusalem. Then, Nehemiah decides to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Of course, the enemies tried to discourage Nehemiah and tell him to give up. But Nehemiah refused and the wall was finished.
Have you ever seen the movie Galaxy Quest? If you haven’t I recommend that you scroll down this post. Otherwise, SPOILER ALERT! In the movie, Jason (who played a captain of a spaceship on a TV show) has to protect a ship full of aliens. But what these aliens didn’t realize was that Jason and his castmates were NOT real space explorers, but actors from a TV Show. Eventually, they tell the truth to the aliens in the middle of the movie. They even consider giving up. But Jason would NOT give up! He said, “Never give up, Never Surrender!”
If you want to know what happened next, watch the movie…I’m not going to spoil it anymore.
Here’s a great resource for you when it comes to perseverance.
Alistair Begg from Truth for Life preached a message called “Gideon: The Weakest & The Least” It was from a series called “The Strength of Weakness”.
I think the best way to encourage you guys to persevere is to Quote the “Captain”…
“Never Give up, Never Surrender!”
To clarify: you only surrender to God and him alone.
